Case studies are presented of whistler-associated subionospheric VLF/LF perturbations detected at Palmer, Antarctica in two separate measurement periods in 1983. These Trimpi events were proportional in amplitude to the intensity to the associated whistler events. The spatial distribution of the precipitation events had an impact on the amplitudes of disturbances which were observed. The whistlers appeared according to a Poisson distribution, while the Trimpi events did not. The Trimpi events recorded were the first ever attributed to a Southern Hemisphere source.
