Some properties of the characteristic surface of a family of symmetric periodic orbits of the general three-body problem, corresponding to a fixed value of the ratio of the masses of two of the bodies, are studied in view of recent theoretical and numerical results. Periodic orbits of the planar circular restricted problem with periods equal to an integral multiple of 2 pi are of special interest for the structure of a characteristic surface.
