This paper introduces a geometric model of the average geomagnetic neutral sheet. The new geometry, adapted from Voigt's (1984) magnetohydrostatic equilibrium model of the magnetotail, consists of a warped surface with no slope discontinuities. The values of the parameters were chosen to fit the ISEE 1 magnetic field data from 1978, 1979, and 1980. The model is used to examine the spatial distribution of the particle flux dropouts observed in the plasma sheet. It is confirmed that, in the central magnetotail, the plasma sheet can be completely pinched during substorms.
