It is shown that the amplitude maximum of Intervals of Pulsations of Diminishing Periods (IPDP) amplitude profiles, determined in several frequency bands for three IPDP events observed along a meridional chain of pulsation magnetometers, moves to a lower latitude as the frequency of pulsations increases. The observed wave frequency is typically one-tenth of the proton gyrofrequency at the same L shell in the equatorial plane, and it is determined that the frequency increase during the IPDP event exceeds the change in the proton gyrofrequency corresponding to the motion of the source region to lower L-values. On the basis of ion-cyclotron wave theory, it is concluded that IPDP pulsations are generated within a region of high cold plasma density. It is also shown that there is little energy variation during the IPDP event, and that it develops in a stepwise manner.
