Although it is considered physically evident, a rigorous proof that a static stellar model is spherically symmetric is still lacking. Here the relevance of the positive-mass theorem in proving the spherical symmetry of a static stellar model is discussed. As an example, the uniqueness of a particular static perfect-fluid solution due to Wyman (1949) is proved using the positive-mass theorem.
