By using the available data on the Crab pulsar, we suggest that none of
the pulsars so far observed, except the Crab and, possibly, the Vela
pulsar, will show optical pulses. We discuss qualitatively some possible
physical processes in the pulsar magnetosphere which may lead to the
short-period pulsation.
