Scientific paper

Accurate molecular constants for the C 1 Sigma(+) and A 1 Pi states of aluminum fluoride have been used to calculate Franck-Condon intensity factors for the bands of the C-A transition up to nu-prime = nu-double-prime = 0 to 5. The r-centroids were evaluated by a quadratic-equation method, and the results are tabulated along with the band assignments and wavelengths of P heads. It is concluded that the 0, 0 band at 7245.9 A is the most intense band of the system and that a search for the lines of this band in sunspot spectra would resolve the question of whether the lines of the AlF molecule are actually present in sunspots.
