Iron, Jarosites, Mars: Analogs, Sulfur, Volatiles
Scientific paper
Jarosite has been discovered recently as an alteration product of tephra from Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii. These samples share common features with the remotely sensed martian spectra in the region 200 nm to 2200 nm region. A titanium bearing jarosite from Mauna Kea is examined in this paper with reference to its reflectance spectrum, chemical composition, and also its possible use as a Mars soil analog.
