This paper describes how the Sloan Digital Sky Survey telescopes are
operated. A brief introduction to the survey science goals, hardware,
and software systems is provided. Operational issues are discussed such
as staffing, observing planning, real-time quality assurance, and data
handling, with an emphasis on how we maximize operational efficiency.
