A numerical analysis of electron density and temperature measurements obtained near Comet Halley with Langmuir probes aboard the Vega 1 and 2 spacecraft during March 1986 is presented. In the distance range of 3 x 10 to the 5th to 10 to the 6th km from the nucleus, the electron density measured by Vega 1 was about 60/cu cm and that measured by Vega 2 was about 40/cu cm. The potentials of the spacecraft were found to vary between 2 and 3 V in the outer coma.
