VLF hiss waves between 4 kHz and 8 kHz observed by DE-1 on July 30, and Augut 11, 1986, were analyzed using the satellite's spin effect to research the wave modes, the direction of wave normal k, and plasma density. An electron density of 1 el/cu cm was obtained from the wave data recorded on July 30, 1986. This calculated plasma density coincides with the result observed with the Retarding Ion Mass Spectrometer. VLF hiss waves observed on August 11 were presumed to be in the whistler mode and those observed on July 30, were possibly Z-mode.
