Spectral and photometric observations of HD 209661 (V 365 Lac) performed during 1986-1989 confirm that this object is an ellipsodal variable. An analysis of the data indicates that the secondary component in the system is not a compact object surrounded by an accretion disk but a normal star, Sp = B2 V, which is about five times fainter than the primary component in the optical range. It is probable that the system is of contact-binary type.
