Energetic ions in the Jovian magnetotail were studied using the LECP instrument onboard Voyager 2. Seven periods of ion streaming, indicative of ion acceleration in progress in the magnetotail, were found inside the magnetopause between 90 to 170 Rj from Jupiter. The study of these ion streams leads to two conclusions. Averaging over time and with a reasonable estimate of the spatial size of the ion streams, it was found that on the order of 10 to the 23rd power ions/sec with E equal to or greater than 100 keV/nuc are accelerated and transported towards the inner magnetosphere. This rate of ion acceleration is sufficient to populate the inner Jovian magnetosphere using 1% of the observed sunward streaming ions.
