A strong decrease in the damping of Tonks-Dattner resonances with
increasing strength of the exciting microwave field has been observed in
low-pressure mercury and argon dc discharges. Order-of-magnitude
estimates indicate that a nonlinear effect involving a balance between
wave-particle and particle-particle collisions may be responsible.
