[2704] Magnetospheric Physics / Auroral Phenomena
Scientific paper
This talk summarizes auroral arc theories including ionospheric feedback, magnetospheric shear regions, dispersive Alfven waves, and resonance theories, while highlighting testable predictions of each, such as arc width, shape, lifetime, and energy. We will then compare predictions with the observational state of the art, and discuss experimental advances needed to provide definitive tests of candidate arc theories.
