We have observed long-period variations in the amplitudes of the diurnal
and semidiurnal gravity tides at the South Pole which we attribute to
the tidal effects of the 18.6-year regression of the nodes of the lunar
orbit. The observations are in agreement with theoretical values of the
18.6-year amplitude modulation of these tides.
