In a magnetic field H, the 63P0 level of mercury is mixed with the 63P1 and 61P1 levels and the transition 61S0-63P0 is no longer strictly forbidden. We have observed the emission of thee line 61S0-63P0 (2655.6 Å) in t he fluorescence spectrum of 202Hg; its intensity is proportional to H2, in agreement with theoretical prediction.
