In 1964, Shapiro developed a nomographic method (which he called 'tabular') for calculating the geometrical parameters h sub m (height) and y sub m (semithickness) of ionospheric electron density. These two parameters are computed from tabular data on standard ionospheric characteristics. The present paper develops a numerical variant of the original tabular approach and applies it to nighttime ionospheric conditions. The use of the technique to analyze radio wave propagation characteristics is described.
