Numerical experiments on simple models of coupled mantle magmatism-mantle convection systems are made in order to study the thermal and chemical evolution of the mantle. The basic equations for convection are solved numerically as an initial value problem. It is found that the way the mantle evolves depends strongly on two quantities. Coupling between mantle magmatism and mantle convection is found to play a crucial role in the mantle evolution.
