A numerical study of a two-dimensional MHD flow near a magnetic-field zero line under the action of a disturbing electric field is presented. Flows of this sort are a basic component of magnetic field line reconnection, and are of interest in problems involving solar flares, planetary magnetospheres, and nuclear fusion. It is shown that the flow is characterized by the formation of a quasi-steady current sheet of two-dimensional configuration with four offshoots, corresponding to slow MHD shock waves. The geometry of the sheet and the maximum current are determined primarily by plasma conductivity.
