Tagged photons can be used to study astrophysically relevant cross
sections with highest energy resolution. The tagging facility NEPTUN at
the S-DALINAC, Darmstadt, Germany, is presented and it is
demonstrated how NEPTUN can be used to study short-lived branching
nuclei of s-process nucleosynthesis.
