It is shown that the radial motion of matter in Hα is predominantly directed to the solar surface in rarified regions of the chromosphere (chromospheric cavities). The velocity of lowering of matter is of the order of 1 km/sec. A conception is developed that chromospheric cavities are rarified regions with a nearly zero intensity of the magnetic field. As a result thermal instability takes place in the corona and the upper chromosphere.
