A solution for the problem of reconnection in the diffusion region is obtained and asymptotically spliced with the solution in the convective zone. As a result, the Petschek condition is derived, which relates the behavior of the plasma conductivity in the vicinity on the X line with the overall characteristics of the recombinations. It turned out, just as in the Petschek estimates, that the degree of the recombination is weak, depending logarithmically on the conductivity. From the viewpoint of the transformation of magnetic energy into plasma energy it is shown that the pulse mode of reconnection, with a pulse length of the order of the diffusion time, is most effective.
