N-Body Problem: Orbits, N-Body Problem: Restricted

Scientific paper

The rotations of a satellite about its center of mass in an arbitrary, conditionally periodic orbit of the restricted N-body problem are investigated. It is assumed that the paths of the attracting bodies are described by conditionally periodic functions of the time and that the inertia ellipsoid of the satellite is almost spherical. The rotation of the satellite about the angular momentum vector I2 is characterized by Euler-Poinsot motion. The qualitative pattern of motions of the vector I2 is plotted. The influence of orbital elements of the bodies in the system on the rotation of the satellite is investigated.
