An approximate equation is proposed which considers the development of the Rayleigh-Taylor instability (RTI) along the geomagnetic field in the nonlinear regime. Using this equation, it is shown that, at heights with elevated dissipative recombination, the RTI assumes a threshold character with respect to 'bubble' depth and dimensions. A static solution is obtained that describes the 'bubble' as a solitary dissipative structure along the geomagnetic field.
