The evolution of nonlinear perturbations of the regular Bartnik-McKinnon solution of the SU(2) Einstein-Yang-Mills equations is studied numerically. Depending on the initial perturbation, the authors find a collapse to a Schwarzschild black hole or an explosion of the gauge boson 'mini star'. This confirms their expectations from a previous linear stability analysis and provides also numerical evidence for the instability of the new 'colored' black hole solutions.
