The paper is concerned with the basic principles of the nonlinear optical effects generation in planetary atmospheres. To analyse the behaviour of an optical electron by emitting and/or absorbing photon a model of the ideal harmonic oscillator was used as the zeroth-order approximation. The possibility of the second-harmonic generation of the methane absorption in the atmospheres of Jupiter and Saturn is discussed.
