By using non ionization models, the analysis of EXOSAT low energy X-ray data (0.4 - 2 keV) of the supernova remnant RCW 86 reveals the following properties: a shell-like structure, consisting of two separate parts, producing relatively hard and soft X-rays respectively. The soft X-rays come from C-K and O-K emission lines which implies a low NH ⪉ 1020atoms/cm2. The harder X-rays probably result from the Fe-L complex and Ne-K line. A low NH value may also imply the distance to be 1.6 kpc or slightly more.
