The present study investigates a recent method, based on the phase portrait determination of quasi-harmonic 1D oscillations, which allows the weak nonlinear distortions of a waveform to be revealed. The generalized phase portrait of Pc4 ULF waves, recorded by the ISEE satellite, is constructed with the use of the proposed algorithm. The phase portrait method is argued to be especially promising for attempts to explore the dynamic behavior of magnetospheric signals.
