NIFTY*--Donald Correll and Eileen Vergino--NIFTY* is an education program built around the present Nova Laser Facility and DOE's proposed National Ignition Facility, (NIF). NIFTY (NIF for Teachers and Youth) will provide inertial fusion curricula for K-Grad students and teachers. NIFTY will also provide teachers and students the opportunity to participate in ICF research, initially on Nova and eventually on NIF. ICF researchers are partnering with teachers and high school students to develop virtual tours of Nova using video photos and of NIF using computer-aided design drawings. The Nova and NIF virtual tours will be linked to the existing ICF education site (http://ep.llnl.gov/informal_science/fusion/cover.html) which is linked with other informative fusion education "web" sites (http://FusEdWeb.pppl.gov/Resources/FusionSites.html) and with ICF technical material(http://lasers.llnl.gov/lasers/pubs/icfq.html). All three "web" sites can be found within LLNL's Laser Programs home page(http://www-lasers.llnl.gov/). NIFTY will support DOE's efforts to develop a highly skilled workforce through direct internship opportunities, and to provide teachers with a mechanism to instruct and motivate their students in topics related to the science and technology in support of defense and energy related issues. *Work performed under the auspices of the U.S. DOE by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory under Contract W-7405-ENG-48.
