A nickel-rich ataxite from Corowa in southern New South Wales weighed approximately 25 lb on discovery and judged from the state of oxidation of its outer crust has evidently lain on the Earth's surface for several years. In the fresh, unaltered parts of the meteorite discontinuous lamellae of kamacite (alpha-iron) with narrow rims of taenite (gamma-iron) are set in a microcrystalline matrix of plessite which evidently formed by direct precipitation of kamacite from taenite. The metallic constituents of the iron meteorite average 13.43 per cent nickel. Occasional nodules of troilite are embedded in the nickel-iron. Schreibersite occurs as inclusions in the kamacite and as partial sheaths around the larger troilite nodules.
