An undergraduate astronomer has found a supermassive black hole apparently heading out of its home galaxy at speed, in what researchers suggest is the aftermath of a black hole merger. If so, there may be many more such objects to be found, casting light on the mechanics of black hole collisions.
While the nature of dark matter is proving elusive, its location is becoming ever more precisely known thanks to more sophisticated means of measuring its gravitational effects.
