The Science and Technology Facilities Council has set out how it intends to use not only the relatively favourable UK government funding received for the coming year, but also how to manage the savings needed in future years, without damaging UK astronomy and particle physics more than is necessary.
Four new members have been appointed to the Council of the Natural Environment Research Council, and Steven Wilson has stepped in as interim CEO.
The replacement for the Hubble Space Telescope, the James Webb Space Telescope, is under threat in budget cuts for US science, despite its position as the centrepiece of US space astronomy for the coming two decades.
