We review the need for high resolution gamma ray telescopes operating in the MeV and GeV energy range. Two specific goals are the detection of radiation from cosmic strings and narrow lines from Cold Dark Matter Annihilation. In addition, the detection of angular fluctuations in the diffuse spectrum can signal the mechanism of formation. We discuss two types of high resolution telescopes; liquid Argon and Xenon and warm liquid electron drift detectors.
