Binaries observed in the initial rapid phase of mass exchange between the components are very rare since the statistical probability to find them is low. At the same time, their thorough studies are extremely important for better understanding of the process of large-scale mass exchange and possible mass loss from the system. upsilon Sgr is probably one of such objects. Analyzing 38 new electronic spectra obtained during summer, autumn 2005 and spring 2006 and numerous published spectral observations, we derive the new orbital elements and for the first time we also derive the peculiar RV curve of the blue-shifted Hα absorption. The peculiar RV curve of the blue-shifted Hα absorption rules out the model of a coronal flow of matter from the brighter component suggested by Nairai (1967). Presence of bipolar jets-like structures perpendicular to the orbital plane and similar to those found for βLyr seems probable. The peculiar character of the line spectrum of the brighter component is more reminiscent of an optically thick disk than of a stellar spectrum.
