Data are presented concerning various estimates of meteor luminous efficiency obtained in recent years. The necessity of improving the meteoric mass scale is discussed in relation to a proposed dependence of meteor luminous efficiency on meteoroid velocity and on the product of atmospheric density and meteor light flux. A general qualitative description of such variations is given in terms of the mass distribution of meteoroids and the introduction of a revised meteoric mass scale. It is shown that the theoretical meteor light curve and certain relations between initial meteoroid mass and parameters at the moment of maximum light can be improved by adopting the proposed functional relation for meteor luminous efficiency.
