The observed thermodynamic distribution function f(N) for galaxies places significant constraints on the amount of structured dark matter in the universe. The simplest models of cold dark matter require the cosmological density parameter Ω0 ⪉ 0.4. Biased galaxy formation in more complicated models must have specific forms which depend on the amount and structure of dark matter in the model.
