New transition probabilities based on configuration interaction wave functions have been obtained in the doublet and quartet systems and for intercombination lines of neutral nitrogen. The configuration interaction calculations were performed with the CIV3 code of Hibbert (1975). Small empirical adjustments introduced to the diagonal matrix elements achieve accurate energy splittings between the energy states. The accuracy of the transition probabilities has been tested from comparisons with the most accurate theoretical or experimental results presently available. Astrophysical implications are also briefly discussed.
