Various cooling scenarios that differ in the cooling mechanisms included and in the treatment of superfluidity are developed for a simple constant-density model of a neutron-star interior. Major processes that contribute to the neutrino volume luminosity are analyzed, and the effect of nucleon superfluidity on specific heats and neutrino emissivities is investigated. The results obtained are found to yield no evidence concerning the existence of pion condensates in neutron-star interiors.
