The equation of state of dense matter is essential to the theoretical prediction of the structure of neutron stars on the global as well as local scale. We present two parallel microscopic calculations of the equation of state of a uniform extended system of neutrons interacting by the Reid potential, the first based on the ordinary Jastrow method in two-body approximation, the second based on the Wu-Feenberg version of Jastrow theory, which sums higher-order contributions. The good agreement of the two calculations, to quite high density, indicates that for the simple monotonie correlation factor assumed, a prominent class of higher-order (three-body, four-body, ...) cluster contributions is relatively unimportant in dense neutron matter.
