Assuming a nonvanishing electromagnetic moment of the neutrino, we have calculated the cross sections for the spin-flip process νeL-->νeR for a relativistic 8B neutrino emitted from the center of the Sun. The spin flip occurs as a consequence of the neutrino electromagnetic interaction with a solar plasma constituent. The relevance of this mechanism for the solar-neutrino puzzle and also for the type-II supernova neutrino signal is discussed.
