Calculations of the neutrino-capture cross sections of 69,71Ga based on a microscopic treatment of the Gamow Teller matrix elements are presented. A strong enhancement of the cross section for high energetic neutrinos is found compared to previous phenomenological estimates. Implications for the detection of solar and galactic neutrinos by a gallium neutrino detector are discussed.
