Neutrino absorption in matter up to densities of 1015 g/cm3 is discussed. The number density of neutrons, protons, and electrons in the degenerate matter is found. The effect of the Pauli exclusion principle on the absorption is then analyzed under the idealization of zero-temperature material composed of noninteracting nucleons. For example, the threshold neutrino energy, below which the degenerate matter is completely transparent to neutrinos, is found. The various results are presented in terms of tables, graphs, and simple equations.
