This paper describes a 4-m aperture light collector constructed using the mosaic principle for the purpose of high resolution stellar spectroscopy in the near infrared by the Fourier multiplex technique. The most novel feature of the system is complete servocontrol of all optical elements to bring individual images to a common point. The optical system is described with attention given to the mosaic primary spherical mirror and the image detection system, and the mechanical design and servosystems are also considered.
