An explanation is offered for short-period variations of cosmic-ray intensity in the stratosphere with an amplitude of about 10 percent. It is suggested that, at low and middle latitudes, these variations can be explained by wave motions of air in the atmosphere; and that, at high latitudes, they can be explained by pulsating precipitations of trapped radiation, induced by resonant oscillations of the outer field lines of the magnetosphere.
