I present maps and results obtained during the first sounding rocket flight of the NUVIEWS (Narrowband Ultraviolet Imaging Experiment for Wide Field Surveys) payload. NUVIEWS is designed to map diffuse CIV emission (155 nm), H_2 fluorescence ( ~ 160 nm) and far-UV continuum (140-180 nm), covering a large portion of the sky with good sensitivity on degree scales. The experiment consists of four co-aligned, wide-field (30(deg) 20(deg) ) self-filtering telescopes with 7-10 nm bandpasses centered on 145, 155, 161, and 176 nm. The three-mirror telescope design and microchannel-plate detector with two-dimensional readout provide good imaging ( ~ 5(') ) for point-source subtraction. NUVIEWS was launched on July, 14 1996 from White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. NUVIEWS scanned over 10,000 deg(2) during its 300s flight. I will review the instrument flight performance, present skymaps for each waveband and discuss results concerning the components of the Galactic and extragalactic far-UV background. I will also describe plans for future flights of NUVIEWS.
