We propose to carry out NAPA observations of bright, nearby core-collapse supernovae (SNe) to: (1) Determine the physics of SNe through the study of the mass-loss rate, absorption mechanisms, and density distribution of the circumstellar medium (CSM) laid down by the pre-SN stellar wind; (2) Improve our understanding of the various subgroupings (Type Ib, Ic, IIL, IIP, IIn, IIb) which characterise the range of SN progenitor systems; and (3) Provide targets for an existing Chandra ToO program which is sensitive to the thermal emission from the SN shock and, thus, complementary to the non-thermal radio observations.
