Analysis of multisatellite scintillations and corresponding ionograms reveals a dependence of the diurnal distribution of scintillation magnitude on the type of nighttime spread-F and on sporadic E. A marked decrease in scintillations in mornings, in all seasons, is associated with the dawn maximum in the occurrence of frequency spread. Scintillations maximize at 2200-0200 LT at night, in association with an increase in the occurrence of range spread (particularly in the summer). A daytime increase in scintillations is observed 1400-1800 LT in the winter. Diurnal variations in the spatial distribution of scintillations argue for an equatorward expansion of scintillation regions.
