Between January 2008 and March 2009, the solar activity remained very low and Corotating Interaction Regions (CIRs) were the prevailing source of energetic ion increases observed near 1 AU. During this period, the angular separation between the twin STEREO spacecraft grew from 44 to 93 degrees, which correspond to co-rotation times from 3 to 6.5 days. We used ballistic backmapping technique to compare multi-spacecraft measurements of particle and plasma data during these CIR events and to correlate in-situ and remote-sensing observations. Sometimes the structures observed by different spacecraft during the same CIR event show remarkable differences. Latitudinal separation and temporal evolution of coronal holes are found to be a frequent source of such discrepancies. Observations suggest that the interaction between recurrent high speed streams and transient solar wind structures in the interplanetary medium (large interplanetary coronal mass ejections and small-scale transients) play also an important role. We focus the study on the effect of such interactions on the energetic ion increases observed by different spacecraft.
