Planets: Pairs, Minor Planets: Orbital Evolution, Minor Planets: Three-Body Problem
Scientific paper
The problem of the motion of a system consisting of a pair of bodies (binary planet) when the distance between them is much less than their distances to a third body, whose mass is much greater than the binary planet mass, is studied in the framework of the unrestricted three-body problem. A system of equations describing relative motion in the binary planet system, taking into account its center of mass orbital motion along a Keplerian orbit, is deduced and analyzed. One of the parameters in the three-body problem in this case is equal to zero. If the value of this parameter does not vanish, the existence of three families of periodic orbits is established that are close to elliptic (in particular circular) orbits.
